Yet, I can also appreciate the frustration felt by writers of color when well meaning authors get it wrong. And, sadly, not all authors are well meaning.Lauren Bjorkmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17461938401652697707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388578325782539013.post-51236394988623346622018-01-23T00:05:44.791-05:002018-01-23T00:05:44.791-05:00It is confusing. I have more questions than answers and I also wonder how far we should take the question: Is this my story to tell? Should I be writing books in the voice of 17 and 7-year-olds? Are my male characters less authentic? Having started my writing career as a journalist I would have be stymied, and perhaps in the wrong business, if I had to ask "Is this my story to tell?" I told other people's stories all the time.Jen Doktorskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16143138396478408692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388578325782539013.post-52672822456742053772018-01-21T09:55:35.477-05:002018-01-21T09:55:35.477-05:00If this were pushed to extremes, I'd never be ...If this were pushed to extremes, I'd never be able to write a book with a female protagonist. Granted there's a lot of new traps in our current cultural minefield, but a good story is a good story and with the explosion of self-publishing, publish on demand options, comes a new freedom. I don't have the answers--I have way more questions for sure. But I love when we can have the kind of dialogue that will bring a higher tide that raises all boats. <3Kimberly Sabatinihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18143516055206233316noreply@blogger.com
