If we pigeon-hole our accomplishments in should haves, we'll never feel successful. All victories matter, and 6k is something I'd be psyched about. To be a writer is to spend a huge amount of your life feeling uncomfortable.

I had this realization (don't laugh) in therapy and it was actually really amazing and permissive for me. I haven’t given NaNo a serious go before and this year was definitely not the year unfortunately (new job plus like you things need to marinate and they haven’t), but since it sounds like we are so similar in our writing mentalities, this along with Sydney’s post is really giving me the desire to try it next year OR if I end up doing a major overhaul on a project that I’ve been thinking about, setting some type of NaNo type goals for January… Thanks for this amazing post and go, go, go on your writing!Stephanie Kuehnerthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15337734171729461782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388578325782539013.post-47748518554661635472013-11-12T07:54:21.758-05:002013-11-12T07:54:21.758-05:00Thanks Holly!!!!Thanks Holly!!!!Kimberly Sabatinihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18143516055206233316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388578325782539013.post-89343645380891130922013-11-08T15:54:55.519-05:002013-11-08T15:54:55.519-05:00Go, Kim, go!!Go, Kim, go!!Holly Schindlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16742207239654178917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3388578325782539013.post-3397033935261008162013-11-08T13:25:42.969-05:002013-11-08T13:25:42.969-05:00I think you should try it next year with just the ...I think you should try it next year with just the goal of putting some word on the page and see what happens. Have a plan in mind--in fact--spend the year mulling over ideas, characters plot. Keep a notebook and then just see what you can put on the page. You'd be surprised at how fast it can come out when you're not doing the planning on the spot AND your inner editor is on vaca. I've never done NaNoWriMo (I WANT to, though!) because grad school and teaching make it almost impossible for me to do it. I could give up a few hours of sleep each day, but then I start yelling at everyone when that happens, so I probably shouldn't. When you're shooting for 50,000 words in a month, you've got to let go of that crippling perfectionist habit, fast. There will be time to revise later. (And revise again. And again. And again.) But at least you have a finished draft to work with. Jody Casellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17892174349776047862noreply@blogger.com
