Kimberly Sabatini's Guide to Social Media

Very often social media feels like this...

We all have those moments, but that means we're doing it wrong.

It's supposed to feel like this...

Isn't that better?

Now go have some chocolate or some Skittles to celebrate the brain fart we just had.

What's the best and worst part of your social media experience? Have you been doing it "wrong?" What would it take to make it feel good? BTW--hanging with you feels fabulous! :o)

  1. I love social media because it's how I found you! *hugs*

But I often feel like the kid eating lunch alone because all the cool kids don't like her. I don't fully understand why, but social media seems to encourage rudeness.

I tweet, nobody replies. There are even times I tweet directly TO people, and am ignored. I don't understand it and wish people would remember manners. That would make me feel good :)

    2. Aw, that sucks! You know I love you, too! :)

  2. I second what Patty said. Twitter confuses me and it seems everyone's tweeting but no one's listening. Or at least no one listens to my tweets. But I admit I also don't spend much time on Twitter. I'd rather write or visit blogs or occasionally Facebook.

Is Twitter necessary for a writer?

    1. I agree with Kimberly that it's helpful, but not necessary.

  3. I think it's only necessary if it is enjoyable for you. It's my favorite place so I spend the most time there, but maybe because I spend the time, I have more interactions. I think the trick is to just do your best to have a conversation with someone who is interested.

  4. Thanks, Kim and Jen! If I spend more time getting to know my way around Twitter, I definitely won't get this novel finished.

I'm also more visual, I suppose. So Facebook and blogging appeal to me a little more. Tumblr would probably be best, but I can't handle yet another form of social media! :)

  5. I know what Patty means--it can feel like middle school.

I do know that sometimes Twitter doesn't show people all their @mentions (because sometimes tweets for me will show up on Tweetdeck but not on the Twitter website, and vice-versa--it's so weird), so maybe it's not the non-repliers' fault. Not always, anyway. :)

    1. I agree--I've missed stuff that made me crazy. It also unfollowed Michelle one time--like that would happen!
