Mud season (Lauren Bjorkman)
A note to spring worshippers: Go ahead and revel in your larks on
the wing and dew-pearled hillsides. But take a moment from that heady ecstasy
to pity those of us living in the mountains of northern New Mexico. Instead of
spring we have high winds and acres upon acres of mud. Where should we look for
inspiration?
Rilke writes: Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child
that knows poems.
I rebut with this: Mud season is upon us. The Earth is like wet
cement that you can’t get off your shoes.
Robin Williams said, Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s
Party.”
I say, mud is nature’s way of getting revenge.
Bissonette writes: An optimist is the human personification of spring.
But I feel like throwing the optimist into the wallow.
But I feel like throwing the optimist into the wallow.
Lao Tzu said, Sitting quietly, doing nothing. Spring comes, and
the grass grows by itself.
Ahhh. I found my inspiration at last. I will sit quietly inside, doing
nothing until the grass grows.
This is so funny, Lauren! Sending some Miracle-Gro-style thoughts your way...
ReplyDeleteI'm much obliged :-)
DeleteI relate to your post! I'm about to scrub all the muddy paw prints that came into my house during our muddy spring weather last week. Now I'll do it with a smile on my face :)
