Decisions, Decisions....
by Charlotte Bennardo
Right now I'm struggling to choose between...
Taking pain medication for my broken leg which will leave me unable to write this post.
That's the thing about decisions: most times we have to choose between what's best for others (like keeping my promise to Holly and the others to fill my blog slot) or choosing what's best for me (no pain, good sleep). Sometimes we can do both and make everyone happy. I've taken my pain meds and since they haven't kicked in yet, I can do this post. In ten minutes, everyone's going to be happy (as happy as I can be with a broken leg that is screwing up my vacation, my summer, my garden, my writing, my LIFE).
For writers, sometimes it's simple, like choosing one word, one point of view, one character trait over another. Many times, it's a harder decision, like being happy with our vision, or making the agent/publisher happy with their revisions, or putting that project of your heart in a drawer because either you can't finish it, can't make it right, or it doesn't get picked up.
But that's what life is, no matter how old you are, how talented, how the world sees you, etc.
I've successfully avoided making this one decision: I took my pain meds, then wrote my blog post. Everyone got what they wanted.
If only all decisions could be this easy to navigate.

At the risk of being accused of snark, I feel your pain.
