My Dream Job (Holly Schindler)

Writing is my dream job. Always has been. Wasn't easy getting here, though. It took me 7 1/2 years of full-time effort to sell a book. This happened only because I had some insanely fantastic family support. It shouldn’t take 7 1/2 years to figure this out…more importantly, it can’t. Nobody has 7 1/2 years to devote to revising draft after draft after draft.

That’s why I started writing so much about craft. It’s why I launched my first video course, started creating writing resources, and revived a long-dead YouTube channel, all within the past few months.

Like most creatives, I’m deep in the planning stage for next year. One thing I know I want to get rolling early next year is a Patreon page. A truly worthwhile Patreon, one that doesn’t make you groan, uuuugh, another subscription.

Right now, I’m planning to offer members completely free writing resources (craft guides like my Golden Thread), and I would also offer, completely free, my serialized fiction, which I plan to launch next year. I would offer discounts on video courses and writing books (either fiction or books on craft purchased directly from me), as well as discounts on art.

And, of course, I’m looking at the ways in which Patreon can create a community for us all as fellow writers and fiction nuts.
