Something is Better Than Nothing (Sydney Salter)

Last Monday I had a whole plan. I was dressed to go to the gym. And after that I planned to work on my WIP.

I ended up spending seven hours in the ER with my elderly mom who had gotten severely dehydrated with a bacterial infection. It took a week of hospitalization to get her heart rate back on track and to clear the infection.

That threw my life entirely out of balance. Added a ton of stress. So many more doctor appointments on the horizon.

My usual blogging day is the 10th but I was sitting in a hospital room waiting for the doctor to visit on his rounds. So this month's topic made me laugh out loud.

As a younger person, I tended to work under my ideal circumstances: quiet, rested, long stretches of time. Hot tea. But then I raised two kids. And now I'm a primary caregiver for an elderly parent. Again.

I laugh at the advice to write every day. Maybe that works for people without children, parents, pets or friends. We cannot control what life throws at us suddenly on a sunny Monday morning.

I do know that you can finish any piece of writing by doing a little bit when you can manage it. Something is better than nothing. Eventually you will get it done.
