Hooray for Dollywood! -- Jen Doktorski

We're blogging about theme parks this month and for some reason, in my two years of blogging with YAOTL, this has been the hardest post for me to write. I'm not sure why because I LOVE theme parks!! Roller coasters in particular. It could be that I'm a tad burnt out after the blog tour for THE SUMMER AFTER YOU AND ME. Or it could be that I had too many ideas and my brain refused to settle on just one. All week I kept thinking...

Should I blog about my favorite book about a theme park?

Or, my favorite theme park about a book?

My favorite New Jersey theme park, Six Flags?

The theme park I wrote about in THE SUMMER AFTER YOU AND ME but still haven't gotten the chance to visit?

The first theme park we took our daughter to when she was three? It's called Storybook Land but for some reason, she always referred to it as Wonder World, which cracks us up.

My favorite theme park outside the U.S.?

Or maybe my favorite theme park of all time. Not original, I know, but absolutely true. I want to live on Main Street U.S.A.

In the end, I couldn't decide. Maybe because theme parks, like books, are such a visceral experience. There's the thrill of the unknown, the opportunity to see your favorite characters brought to life, the ability to be transported to another time or place, or dive head first into your favorite series. I love theme parks as almost as much as books and I wouldn't be able to pick a favorite book either.

Happy summer everyone!
