Not My First Car (Jody Feldman)

Yeah, I know. We're supposed to write about our first car this month. However...
I've been trying and trying and trying to come up with a story infused with, at least, a little emtion. Truth is, my used, silver Toyota was wonderfully serviceable during my senior year of college and for plenty of years after. Next, came another used car. Again, fine. (Except for the dealer who was jailed for rolling back the odometers in all his used cars, including mine.)

But here's the first car that had my heart. A fire-engine red Jeep Cherokee with glitzy champagne trim. Brand new!!! I'd come to a point in life where I'd earned it.  And I was suddenly on top of the world.

Good things don't last forever, though. So, when I'd driven it as far as it could healthily run, it was time. The Jeep wasn't worth much, even as a trade-in, so I donated it to PBS. That way, I could imagine Big Bird hanging out in it... or... maybe loaning it to Bert and Ernie for some wacky adventures. That way, I never really had to let it go.

Jody Feldman thanks this blog for allowing her to drum up some wonderful memories. It's been worth so many smiles, she's driven to send a donation to PBS today. You're welcome to join her.
