The Northern Pacific Railroad / Jubilee Walker Book #3 Out Now
What a delight it's been to feature Tim Piper and his Jubilee Walker series. Rarely do we get any kind of historical books in YA, and while these books aren't specifically YA, they do feature a young main character that young readers will easily get involved in. Jubil is a delightful character who comes of age embarking on a series of adventures set in the 1800s: in The Powell Expeditions, we find a 17-year-old Jubil exploring the Colorado River. In the Yellowstone Campaign, he's aged three years becomes involved in the events that lead up to the establishment of our first national park. And in the latest, The Northern Pacific Railroad, we find a 23-year-old Jubil involved in the actual events of the 1872 and 1873 railroad surveys. These books are independent publishing at its best--lovely inside and out.
PW Booklife named The Powell Expedition an Editor's Pick, and said:
"Piper delivers the historical context that readers will expect for the genre, bolstered by very appealing main characters in Jubil—a naïve, yet endlessly brave young man—and Nelly, an independent woman unwilling to compromise her own dreams. Of course, Jubil’s heroes inevitably turn out to be more flawed than he imagined, lending the novel welcome authenticity and attesting to the pursuits of well-known men, venturing into “the great unknown,” too often willing to step on the backs of others in their own endeavors for fame."All three books are available now:
